HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Mel Gibson dead rumors hit the Web late Sunday after several Twitter users began posting "RIP Mel Gibson" on their accounts.
The reality is people have been saying Gibson’s career is dead. It has been a challenging few weeks for the star, who is locked in a bitter custody battle with former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva over their 8-month-old daughter Lucia. RadarOnline has been posting alleged phone calls between the ex-lovers in which Gibson is painted as a ranting maniac.
One person who has come to Gibson’s defense is his estranged wife, Robyn Moore, who defended him against allegations he hit Grigorieva.
"Mel never engaged in any physical abuse of any kind toward me before, during or after our marriage," she wrote in a declaration submitted to the court for Gibson’s ongoing custody battle with Grigorieva, according to TMZ. "Mel was a wonderful and loving father."
Moore filed for divorce from Gibson after nearly 30 years of marriage in April 2009. They have seven children together.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department recently opened a domestic violence investigation involving Gibson and Grigorieva, whose bitter breakup began when they split in April after a year of dating.
