HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Miley Cyrus’ pole dancing scandal is being revisited after her 9-year-old sister created a stir of her own thanks to a revealing Halloween costume.
Noah Cyrus caused a commotion when she wore a dominatrix-like costume last Saturday at the Children Affected by Aids Foundation’s 16th Annual Dream Halloween event in Santa Monica, Calif.
“We’re forced to question [parents] Billy Ray and Tish’s judgment,” wrote E! Online after the benefit event. “Obviously, these costumes are going to cause a stir, and the Cyrus family knows the Internet really can be a mean place—just look at all the scrutiny Miley deals with on an almost daily basis. So it seems odd they would willingly subject a 9-year-old to such criticism.”
Cyrus came under fire in August for her pole dancing performance at the Teen Choice Awards, where she busted out her provocative dance while performing her new track “Party in the USA.” About a third of the way through the song, the Hannah Montana star climbed atop an ice cream cart and shimmied alongside a pole protruding from its top, resulting in a statement from the network that carries her hit show.
“Disney Channel won’t be commenting on that performance, although parents can rest assured that all content presented on the Disney Channel is age-appropriate for our audience – kids 6-14 – and consistent with what our brand values are,” a spokesperson for the network said.
Last year, Cyrus drew criticism when she posed semi-nude for a photo spread in Vanity Fair. She later apologized for the shoot with notorious photographer Annie Leibovitz.
“I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed,” she said at the time. “I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.”
