President Obama Scores Heart-Shaped Potato on ‘David Letterman’

NEW YORK — President Barack Obama continued his busy promotional schedule Monday by paying a visit to the “Late Show with David Letterman.” As it turned out, he didn’t leave empty handed.

“The main reason I’m here? I want to see that heart-shaped potato,” Obama told Letterman, in reference to a woman in the audience who brought along the potato to the show.

And with that, the woman tossed the heart-shaped potato to Letterman, offering to let Obama keep her prized possession.

“This is remarkable,” said Obama, the first-ever sitting president to appear on the CBS show.

During his appearance, Obama also discussed a number of topics, including the recent controversial comment by former president Jimmy Carter, who suggested that criticism of Obama’s presidency is driven by race.

“I think it’s important to realize that I was actually black before the election,” he told Letterman.

“How long have you been a black man?” the host joked in response.
