San Diego Chargers Staff Member Walt Daniels Dies From Stadium Fall

SAN DIEGO — Walt Daniels, a longtime member of the San Diego Chargers game-day staff, has died after falling from the press box hours before Monday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

The 66-year-old Daniels died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sharp Memorial Hospital, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office told the Associated Press.

Daniels fell out out of a booth that was to be used by members of the Broncos coaching staff. The accident took place about three hours before kickoff, with Daniels falling about 25 to 30 feet to the stadium’s loge level.

“The San Diego Chargers’ family is greatly saddened by the loss of Walt Daniels,” the team said in a statement on its official Web site. “Walt loved the team and loved working in the press box on game days for more than 20 years. Our prayers are with his family and friends during this most difficult time.”
