Carrie Underwood is constantly topping our unofficial “Best Beauty Looks” list (like her most recent glowy look at the Country Music Awards earlier this month). But did you know that the country singer also loves to get glammed-up off the red carpet? Or that she does her own hair and makeup on tour? Well, it’s true. Underwood reveals some of her favorite products and beauty secrets with makeup guru Bobbi Brown forYahoo Beauty.

The brand ambassador for Almay says she started wearing makeup at a young age (“If I had a daughter I might have her hold off for a little while longer, but it gave me more time to learn,” she says) — and now her beauty routine is her “me time” when she’s on the road.
“When I am on tour I enjoy doing my own hair and makeup,” she shares. “There are just so many people on the road, and it’s kind of therapeutic for me to be able to sit on my butt, and have all my things, and it’s quiet. It’s my time to play.”
What products does she love to play with most? Her favorites are Almay’s Butter-Kiss Lipstick and the brand’s eye makeup remover pads, each $6.
Even when the busy mom-to-be isn’t performing every night, you’re still not likely to catch her without at least a little mascara and blush. “I don’t think I ever have makeup-free days, to be honest,” she says. “I wear makeup for me. I don’t want to walk by a mirror and feel like I haven’t given some sort of effort. I just feel better when I have a little on.”

It’s not just for her, though — going makeup free can be an occupational hazard as well. “Nashville is really not bad at all for photographers or things like that,” she shares. “But I will say, if I have to make a late night run to the grocery store or pharmacy, the one time I actually don’t have makeup on is the one time everybody will notice me and want to take pictures, so that’s also why I do try to wear makeup.”
