Christina Hendricks Ignores Dress Code in Emerald Green Dress (With a Surprise Twist!) at Mad Men Premiere

The most fabulous quick change—and she didn’t even have to swap her dress!

To premiere the final seven episodes of Mad Men at the Black & Red Ball in L.A. on Wednesday, March 25, Christina Hendricks not only broke the dress code, but also stunned in a dress with a fun twist: Its skirt was removable!

While her costars, January Jones and Kiernan Shipka, kept to the night’s color theme, Hendricks, 39, opted to walk the red carpet in an emerald-hued statement Zac Posen dress. While the design she arrived in boasted a full, fabulous skirt, the actress soon removed that skirt, revealing an equally lovely column dress with an embellished hemline underneath.

Hendricks did, however, incorporate a bit of the traditional red into her ensemble, via her beauty choices. She worked her strawberry blonde hair, styled into glam waves and applied a crimson statement lip.

Since wrapping filming on Mad Men, which required her to keep her hair red, Hendricks has been able to return to her flaxen-haired roots. “I thought it would be refreshing to go back to blonde,” the Clairol brand ambassador told Marie Claire. “When I first looked in the mirror and saw the golden-honey color, I felt nostalgic. It was like I was looking at a version of me from 20 years ago, and it brought back that time period.”
