Christina Hendricks Wows in Two-in-One Dress at Mad Men Ball: See Her Red Carpet Transformation

Christina Hendricks didn’t follow the dress code at the Made Men Black and Red Ball, but she did manage to make a major statement. The actress ruled the red carpet in a striking green Zac Posen confection with a detachable skirt (and it’s the kind of look that you need Joan Holloway-level confidence to pull off).

The star first posed for some photos in the mega gown, which features a tiny butterfly print along the neckline and bottom of the skirt. Then halfway down the carpet she removed the skirt (we’d imagine it’s pretty heavy and difficult to walk in) to reveal the sleek silhouette of the dress. She stayed true to her vintage, retro vibe with soft waves, an orangey-red lip and tons of art deco-style jewels.

Hendricks recently dyed her hair from her signature fiery red shade to a strawberry blonde hue, and told PEOPLE that the color change helped her say goodbye to her famous TV alter ego.

“It’s [the end of Mad Men] sort of the impetus behind my color change,” she explained. “I had been red long before I had played Joan, but they did start to become sort of the same person. I started relating the red to Joan. When everything was coming to an end, and all of sudden I was moving to New York and all these changes were happening I thought why don’t I just embrace the change and change a little bit of everything, and give Joan a nice little send off. It was sort of an emotional thing for me too.”
