Despite Stefano Gabbana’s passionate defense of Domenico Dolce’s controversial statements about gay parents (to recap, he told Panorama magazine, “”We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one … No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: Life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed”), the backlash against the designers continues. More celebrities have joined Elton John in his boycott of the designers, and Tuesday, a top D&G executive stepped down because of the statements, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Since John’s impassioned outcry against the designers on Saturday, in which he said, in part, “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic,’” more celebrities have sided against the designers (themselves openly gay, and whose last runway show was a celebration of motherhood). Victoria Beckham showed support for her friend John, while other stars were more outspoken.

Murphy went one step further in his boycott, speaking openly to The Hollywood Reporter about how his refusal to work with the brand. “To sell the image of the family in their ad campaigns and recent fashion shows on top of that is pure hypocrisy,” he said. “Don’t use family in your advertising as a gimmick. It’s their prerogative to speak out — and it’s my prerogative not to use any of their clothes on my shows. Or buy them for myself either.”
