We knew Lena Dunham would take a risk with her Emmys dress, but she managed to eclipse her usual fashion-envelope-pushing ways this year. The star selected a tiered pink-and-red tulle confection that reminds us of cotton candy.

But it reminds the actress of another sweet: “All I’m gonna say about my Emmy dress is that it looks like cake and feels like sweatpants #loveandjoy,” she Tweeted of the design, which features a button-down top and poofy, layered skirt.

The Girls star styled her new blonde bob with bold brows and a red lip for a look that’s bound to secure her a spot on many of tonight’s “risk-taker” lists.

Dunham also Tweeted about her beauty prep routine for the day: “Prepare for the Emmys by enjoying some huevos rancheros and allowing your hair to marinate in its own natural oils.”
