Eva Mendes‘s fashion sense is extra-elevated (remember when you immediately tried to pull off stripes on stripes when you saw them on her?) — and she’s incorporating that vibe into her new collection for her eponymous line with New York & Company. She shared a peek at her upcoming TV spot with us, below.

The commercial opens with a black-and-white scene featuring Mendes wearing one of her new designs, a belted fit-and-flare checked dress, and she moves on to change into a few colorful frocks (a bright mustard-hued number, a long-sleeved floral mini and a green and striped skirt design) throughout the clip. In each of the scenes, Mendes is seen arriving at popular destinations throughout N.Y.C. (Times Square and Grand Central Station, to name a few) in her ladylike designs. The clip ends with Mendes saying, “A great entrance never goes out of style.”

The same can be said of the retro-inspired dresses in her spring collection — a favorite influence for the designer. “I’m definitely not a ‘jeans’ girl. I’m a dress and skirt girl, and I think that I gravitate towards things that are very feminine,” she says. “I think the way the ladies in the ’50s and ’60s did it, they knew what they were doing back then.”
