Find Out Why Kristen Bell Is Not Washing Her Face for a Week (and More Beauty Scoop from the Star)

When she’s not filming her latest projects (like the sequel to Frozen!), Kristen Bell‘s most likely spending time with her two adorable children or helping husband Dax Sheppard prep for a nude scene or working with Neutrogena as brand ambassador. And with such a busy schedule, there’s not much time for the actress to relax and unwind — or wash her face each night. The star has partnered with Neutrogena Naturals to stop washing her face for seven days in an effort to conserve water — and she’s asking you to help, too.

The 34-year-old actress plans to use Neutrogena Naturals Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes for a week, in order to help promote water conservation across the country as part of the The Nature Conservatory and Neutrogena’s new campaign, Wipe For Water.

“It’s a fun way to engage people, but The Nature Conversancy does really great work protecting ecologically important land and [its] main focus is water and they release amazing stats,” she told PEOPLE. “I think people inadvertently consider water a never-ending resource, and the goal behind the campaign is just to enlighten people that hopefully — not anytime soon — but one day, we will have to start thinking about our water conservation, because it’s not an endless resource.”

Plus, Bell is glad to have one less step in her nighttime routine. “It’s a nice — a lazy challenge — which I always enjoy since the lazy challenges always tend to be easier,” she said.

The star also opened up about her low-maintenance hair styling. “I think that I had not had bangs for so long up until this year that I was craving a change, and slicing them off, I cut them very long in an attempt to be a little bit more of a French fringe,” she told PEOPLE. “I enjoy that I can either push them to the side, pull them back or wear them down. So, I find them quite versatile right now, and I think bangs bring out a lot of youth, so climbing into my mid-30s, I really enjoy them.”

As for the best beauty tips and tricks she’s ever received, her husband’s advice happens to be the sweetest — he prefers her bare-faced. Bell said Sheppard told her to “stop wearing makeup, which is obviously very flattering, but yeah, I think he prefers me makeup-free.”

Bell has even picked up a beauty tip (or two) from children. “Not specifically [from my children], but I think what I’ve learned about beauty from children is number one, you’re always more beautiful when you’re laughing, and number two, a little bit of sunscreen can go a long way,” she said. “Your skin will simply look more youthful if you commit to wearing sunscreen and protecting yourself from UV rays.”

But the actress actually feels the most comfortable in her own skin when she’s with her family. “I honestly feel most beautiful when I’m in a snuggle pile with [my family], and also when there’s no mirrors around,” she told PEOPLE. “Because I think it’s such a trap to think that beauty is all visual, and the more you focus on it being a feeling, the happier you’ll become. I truly believe that.”

But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t enjoy getting dolled up every now and then — especially for date night. “[I] usually [go with] a bold lip because I so rarely do that on the day-to-day, and it makes me feel very dressed up,” she said. “And as a mother of two young children, it’s a quick way to feel jazzy. I would love to say I did a gorgeous smoky eye, but I just don’t have the time. And I think that makeup is especially about balance, and I find that all I have to do is a swipe of mascara if I do a bold lip and it tends to be a quicker makeup process.”

And she tries to squeeze in pedicures every now and then too. “If I had the time, I get a pedicure,” she shared. “I usually stick in the red families; I like to stay bold for my feet. I think feet are not innately gorgeous, so they deserve a lot of pizazz, and I usually stick with a pretty bright red.”
