Is Victoria Beckham Vying for Princess Kate’s ‘Gown Rewear’ Crown?

Do you think Victoria Beckham is pulling a sartorial prank on us? We say this because it’s seems too strange to be true: Almost exactly one year ago (362 days ago to be exact), Victoria Beckham stepped out in a gown from her eponymous line at the Bambi Awards in Berlin, and accessorized with stunning emerald earrings and a ring. So when looking at photos of last night’s Global Gift Gala in London, we got red carpet déjà vu.

It appeared that Beckham wore the same dress, the same hair style, stood in the same red carpet pose (obviously), and picked almost the exact same jewelry. Don’t get us wrong, we are not hating on this re-wear; the ever-stylish Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge has done it oh so many times, we’ve lost count. But it did strike us as strange that a lady with her own fashion line — who recently sold off more than 600 pieces from her wardrobe — would return to her closet for another major event.

But before you convince yourself that Beckham woke up yesterday morning, thought it was Groundhog Day and threw on the identical ensemble, note that there are some ultra-subtle differences that we’ve just got to delve into. Last year’s dress has an understated seamed band at the waist, and there’s no front slit. This year, there seems to be an asymmetrical overlay at the front of the dress creating a thigh-high slit.

She also ditched last year’s bracelet, and changed up her earrings ever so slightly: The Jacob & Co. pair she wore last night has a large emerald tear-drop top anchoring it to the ear rather than the smaller diamond on last year’s Chopard pair. Perhaps she’s been on an earlobe-strengthening routine for the past 12 months and can now withstand larger gems? We’ll never know.

The other thing we’ll never know? If Beckham thought we seriously wouldn’t notice! Just kidding, we love you, Victoria.
