James Franco is no stranger to posting buzzworthy selfies on Instagram. In fact, it’s like his seventh job (after actor, author, student, model, director and satirist). But we think this most recent one may have people talking more than usual: He’s showing off a new blond do.

“That Late 90s bleached look,” Franco captioned his (fully clothed) selfie, showing off the universal hand sign for “hard rocking devil horns” as well as his new lightened-up do. Not only is his hair color straight out of the Nick Carter playbook (with frosted tips and everything), but he also straightened his naturally curly locks for a very “I Want It That Way” vibe.
He’s currently filming Michael, about a formerly gay man who turns anti-gay Christian minister, and it’s possible this new look has something to do with that. Or, knowing James Franco, it’s possible that it’s just Monday and he wanted a change. Either way, we hope this didn’t come as too much of a shock to any Franco fanatics out there.
