Jessica Chastain is too busy promoting her new film A Most Violent Year to be bothered with clothes. And that includes the clothes she’s wearing to the Golden Globes, where she’s nominated for Best Actress.
“I have no idea what I’m wearing Sunday,” the actress told reporters at the National Board of Review awards gala in N.Y.C. Tuesday, just before picking up a best supporting actress award.

“I have a press day in New York, then I’m flying to L.A. and I have a fitting and hopefully something will fit!” the star said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever gone to an awards show and not had more of an idea of what I’m going to wear earlier.” (In the past, she’s worn Givenchy and Calvin Klein Collection to the Golden Globes.)
And that’s not the only thing she’s not preparing beforehand. “I never think I’m going to win so you never really write anything if you’re like ‘Well, I’m not gonna win,’” said Chastain, the 2013 Golden Globe winner for her role in Zero Dark Thirty. Why doesn’t she prepare something just in case? Because it’s uncomfortable — literally! “You have this sort of fear of, ‘What if I win? I can’t look like an idiot,’ but I’d rather risk that than having pages stuffed into my gown.”
Almost as important as the (unstuffed) dress is the hair and makeup … which she doesn’t quite have figured out yet either. “Tonight I used — I usually use Kris Buckle and Renato Campora, and they are an incredible hair and makeup team. To be honest I just sit there and listen to music and drink tea and they do everything. It’s not hard at all,” she shared.
When it comes to her movie hair and makeup, Chastain’s character in the ’80s-set drama rocked some badass bangs and serious eyeshadow. Chastain’s personal ’80s style was a little less sophisticated, however. “I liked Pippi Longstocking,” she said of her childhood style inspiration. “I loved doing my hair like that — putting a wire through the braids to make them stand up. Whenever there was a costume party or a Halloween party, that was my go-to.”
We have a feeling that whatever she decides to wear to the Golden Globes this year, she will look stunning, even if she walks down the red carpet in striped knee-highs and braids.
Are you surprised that she’s waiting ’til the last minute? What do you want to see her in?
