The Good Wife has a great husband! True Detective director Cary Fukunaga wasn’t the only under-the-radar hunk turning heads at the 2014 Emmys. Julianna Margulies‘ lawyer love, Keith Lieberthal, was also a welcome distraction from the more familiar Hollywood hotties.

Lieberthal happily posed with his Emmy-winning wife on the red carpet outside L.A.’s Nokia Theatre on Monday, Aug. 25. With his piercing blue eyes, dark hair, and chiseled features, he fit right in with heartthrobs like Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm, The Normal Heart‘s Matt Bomer, and Game of Thrones‘ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
After the awards show, the couple celebrated Margulies’ Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series win at host Seth Meyers‘ Emmys after-party at Hyde. An onlooker tells Us Weekly that the ER alum mingled with guests but always ran back to her husband between conversations.
Married since 2007, with one 6-year-old son, Kieran, Margulies and Lieberthal first met at a dinner party for a friend’s birthday. Their connection was “immediate,” Margulies told Ellen DeGeneres in 2011, but she had reservations at first.
“When he came over to me, I said, ‘Look, I just think you are so handsome. Are you a model or an actor and are you 12 [years old]?'” she recalled to DeGeneres, joking about his boyish good looks and their slight age difference.

The NYC-based actress, 48, didn’t want to date another actor, so she was thrilled when she found out that Lieberthal was a lawyer who’d spent six years as a Wall Street litigator. “I feel bad because people objectify him and they’re like, ‘Oh, your husband is so hot,'” she quipped. “The truth is, he is unbelievably bright and smart and went to Harvard Law.” He’s also, she added, a “remarkable, good human being.”
Those qualities are what made the Good Wife star want to marry him, despite previously thinking she wasn’t the marrying kind. “As corny as it sounds,” she told Good Housekeeping, “it’s the little things, not the big things, that make the marriage. Because anyone can be hot and sexy and have a fun night, but when you look forward to waking up together, that’s someone you probably want to be with for the rest of your life.”
