Thinking about making a major hair change this weekend? We’ve seen a few new bangs, a Jenner undercut and one surprising blond transformation this week — but we think these two new looks may top them all.

Kate Mara, 31, has abruptly reversed course on her lighter locks, ditching her strawberry-blonde bob for her signature shade, a rich, cinnamon-tinged brunette. Earlier this year, Mara went from auburn to sand to platinum over a few months, telling PEOPLE that she wanted a change before she became too defined by her red hair. I was just ready to not be — this sounds really cheesy — but I didn’t want to be defined by my hair color,” she said in February.
Mara settled on a blonde-streaked do for the summer, but she looks ready to switch things up for fall, attending a pre-Emmys party in a studded black jacket and jeans (totally borrowing that for September) and her newly-darkened locks.

While we’re guessing Mara’s back-to-brunette transition will be a crowd-pleaser, Rose McGowan, 40, may have chosen a more controversial cut. The actress has been getting gradually shorter all summer: going from a ponytail to a bob in July, cutting it just below her ears last week, and finally going for the full chop on Friday. She wore it slicked back at the premiere of Life After Beth, which meant we didn’t get a really good look at it until now.
At the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Grants Banquet, the star teamed her bow-topped bustier with an androgynous take on the short cut: a spiky, heavily gelled do with a combed-down back and full plumed bangs. Light pink lips and a winged cat eye kept the look firmly feminine, however.
