Kerry Washington: I Have More Louboutins Than I Can Count

Not only does she have full access to her TV alter ego’s closet (that would be the always-stylish Olivia Pope), but Kerry Washington also happens to be good friends with footwear designer Christian Louboutin, which means her shoe collection is also pretty magical.

When PEOPLE asked Washington how many pairs of Louboutins she owned, the actress replied, “more than I can count,” adding that her favorite styles are, “a kitten heel with spikes, and the pair that I got married in.”

The star debuted the new spring pieces from The Limited Scandal collection Tuesday night in Los Angeles, alongside costume designer Lyn Paolo and Elliot Staples (Senior VP of Design at The Limited). And she revealed that she can’t wait to wear some of the clothes on the hit ABC drama. “I’m very partial to the sweaters this spring,” she shared of the looks, designed by her and Scandal costume “They’re really beautiful and light, and they’re beautiful for layering. They’re gorgeous. In a fitting yesterday, we just chose one for a new episode, so I’ll be wearing one on the show, and I also love our new take on the the cape trench.”

As for her character’s style this season, Pope is currently being held hostage so she’s not gladiator-ing around in her usual polished, sophisticated clothes.

“She’s in such a transitional period. She’s dealing with a lot,” Washington said. “In the last few episodes, she’s kind of re-defining who she is, so it’s hard to say.”

But Washington still wants to swipe everything from the Scandal costume closet. “Even that sweater from the road last week that’s got holes in and splattered blood all over,” she joked.

Off-screen, Washington revealed that she plays around with her style way more than Olivia Pope would.

“I have a lot more fun with patterns and colors,” she said. “I wear a lot of upcoming designers.”

But she wouldn’t classify herself as a risk-taker. “If I don’t like it, I don’t wear it, so it’s maybe a risk out there in the world, but the point is I have to feel good about it,” she shared. “It’s not going to change me if other people like it or not.”
