“She might actually be tinier [than her pre-baby weight],” says her Pilates instructor, Angeline Mitchell. “She looks amazing!”
The former reality star’s quick bounce-back is thanks to her twice-weekly private Pilates sessions with Equinox Highland Park’s Regional Pilates Manager Mitchell, with whom she’s been working out for the past year and a half.
“The reason why she wanted to actually start doing Pilates was because she had heard that she could continue to do it throughout her pregnancy, and then also to get her body back after she has a baby,” explains Mitchell.
During their biweekly 55-minute sessions — which Cavallari complements with a once-a-week personal training session for strength-training — Mitchell focuses on Pilates exercises with some other moves added in for fun and variety. The focus right now? Relieving tight “mommy hip,” as well as the abdominal muscles and the shoulders. Cavallari’s favorite Pilates moves utilize the reformer’s jump board, which gets her heart rate up. Mitchell supplements the reformer work with mat exercises, including extensions and back bends.

“We start out doing a single-leg stretch, which strengthens and stretches at the same time,” she says. “We don’t do a lot of repetitions, but we’re really focused on how strong her form is. We might do a double-leg stretch, where both arms and legs are moving at the same time. Then we’ll do scissors, and then we do a little twisting. You’re getting the body in all different planes of motion, and you’re also using all of your abs.”
Mitchell also dishes that Cavallari was back in her pre-baby jeans after just a month of working out because of her commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
“She’s very conscious about she what she puts in her body, and she’s super committed [to her workouts],” she says. “She doesn’t cancel and she likes to work hard, so she puts the time and the effort in. She’s very consistent and she’s very motivated and driven.”
For any mother who recently gave birth, Mitchell emphasizes that patience and consistency are key to losing the baby weight. “It’s a process,” she says. “You have to put in the time and the effort.”
