Laverne Cox Hints at Her ‘Full-on Princess Moment’ at the Emmys

Laverne Cox is pretty busy these days — but that doesn’t mean she can’t take the time to get her Emmys look perfectly on point.

The Orange Is the New Black actress is shooting season three of her hit show, writing a book and producing two documentaries, but she also has her very first Emmy awards to prep for — and all the glitz and glamour that comes with it.

“We’re trying to wind down [my schedule] … just so I can focus [on the Emmys],” she told PEOPLE at an Orange Is the New Black panel event Monday night in L.A. “We are in fittings and we’re talking to various designers [and] making decisions.”

The actress made history this year as the first transgendered actress to earn an Emmy nomination, garnering an Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series nod for her portrayal of Litchfield inmate Sophia Burset.

With style icons like Beyoncé, Diahann Carroll and Charlize Theron (“She’s flawless!” Cox gushed) on her mind, the star will undoubtedly be bringing the heat on Emmy night.

While she stayed mum on the exact details of her dress, Cox spilled a few details about the rest of her look, including that she’s having a custom wig made for the big night — and that she’s giddy about all the bling coming her way. “We have some offers for fine jewelry. I can’t believe it! It’s like a dream come true,” she said. “I’m a feminist but I’m really looking forward to having a full-on princess moment.”

Completing her fairytale is none other than Cox’s own mother, who will be accompanying her to the upcoming Creative Arts Emmys. “You just don’t know what [your mothers] went through growing up. [For mine, it] was her working three jobs and getting criticized for letting her child who was assigned male at birth take dance classes and be creative,” said Cox. “It’s really awesome that I get to share this with her.”
