Oscars 2015: Laura Dern Still Hasn’t Picked a Dress (with Four Days to Go!)

The year’s biggest red carpet is less than a week away, but best supporting actress nominee Laura Dern still hasn’t nailed down that perfect gown. Not that she’s stressed about it. “You can’t know until you have it on!” the star told PEOPLE at the Bulgari and Save the Children Pre-Oscars event on Tuesday in Beverly Hills.

But the Wild star is cool, calm and collected when it comes to the dress-selection process. At the end of the night, she knows she will “feel like a princess and have fun with it,” she said.

At the event, Dern stunned in a berry ombré Halston Heritage gown and bright green earrings, plus a hot pink clutch. But more important than the color when it came to picking out her bag was the size.

“One of the first things I said to my beautiful and very supportive stylist was, ‘I’ve got an iPhone 6 Plus. Make sure it fits [in there],’ ” she said of her giant phone. Her glasses and a protein bar also get squeezed in.

But there is one other important red carpet accessory that Dern has to pick out before Sunday — a lucky date (or, perhaps, two or three)! Although she’s not completely sure who will escort her to the Oscars, she does know it will be “completely family-based.”

“As much family as I can get there, I will,” she said.
