Oscars 2015: These Backless Gowns Deserve Another Glance!

We’ve already shared our favorite looks of the star-studded night, but there was a whole other category of dresses that also earned our attention: These stars whose dresses might have been even more wow-worthy from the back.

While Marion Cotillard’s stunning polka-dot cutout Dior Haute Couture gown may have looked a bit conservative from the front, once the star turned around, we completely changed our tune. Its open back and bustle is controversial — though definitely fashion-forward — and we’re thinking we’ll be seeing more of this on the red carpet.

We weren’t quite sold on Emma Stone’s chartreuse beaded Elie Saab number at first, but after viewing the intricately beaded number from another angle, we’re definitely adding it to our “Best Dressed” list for the night. The rear view of Stone’s gown reveals her entire back, creating a sexy-yet-still-covered-up ensemble.

Lupita Nyong’o’s custom Calvin Klein Collection is one we’ll be talking about for years to come — those shimmering pearls! (6,000 to be exact.) And they were as remarkable from all angles as they were from the front. (Though we’ve got questions about the comfort level while seated.)

Naomi Watts shined in a silver-and-black Armani Privé number, but what kept the look together (literally) was the sequined black bandeau seen from behind, leaving not much to the imagination when she gave us another view.

And finally, wrapping up our backless looks of night category is Gina Rodriguez, who opted for a high-neck blue (but really green due to its eco-friendly materials) gown, which revealed a whole lot of skin from behind.
