It’s no surprise to anyone that ’90s fashion is back in a big way. Between the overalls, the waist-tied shirts and the floral sundresses, we’re definitely in the middle of a Britney Spears-on-TRL level resurgence of that decade’s style. And while we aren’t quite at butterfly clips yet, it can’t be too far off — because some big-name stars are ripping out a page from the Cher Horowitz playbook and pairing their knee-highs with heels.

The most fun part about this trend? Each star is giving it her own distinct spin. Taylor Swift does her own preppy/retro/girlie thing in scalloped shorts, burgundy accessories and her signature lace-up Oxfords. Katy Perry gives it her ’90s-punky-aesthetic with her slime-green hair, Peter Pan collar shirt and chunky platform peep-toes. And Lindsay Lohan, of course, puts her own unmistakable spin on the look, wearing hers with booties, a sweeping coat, a floppy hat and a piano key dress.
This isn’t a trend for the faint of heart — you need a little Cher Horowitz fashion chutzpah to pull it off with panache. But we’d say that three stars in two weeks wearing the look means that we’re going to be seeing it quite a bit, so start practicing your outfits now (you may want to consult your computerized closet).
What do you think of this style? Will you try it this spring? Who wore it best?
