Priyanka Chopra’s Beauty Secrets: Yogurt Baths, Tons of Shade and Never Scrimping on Beauty Products

Priyanka Chopra is waging a major invasion of the U.S., from her debut as the new Guess Girl to the large-scale launch of her latest single, a dance remix of the country classic “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” complete with music video cameo from Gilmore Girls‘ Milo Ventimiglia. But it was only a matter of time until she became a star on our shores — after all, the youngest-ever Miss World and Bollywood superstar is a huge name to a significant chunk of the globe.

But when we met her in our west coast offices, she was just a totally regular girl, willing to open up the contents of her beauty bag to us. She looked right on-trend for L.A. in a scalloped crochet tank top and high-waisted light-wash jeans, plus some majorly enviable hair and perfectly-shaped eyebrows that are going on our inspiration boards right now. She shows off her favorite picks, but don’t expect to see any bargains in there: “When it comes to beauty, I don’t save!” she tells PEOPLE, though she saves her ultimate splurges for skincare.

She also shares that she stockpiles “oils and Ayurveda [natural products with medicinal properties]” when she’s home in India, because she can’t get them here, and that some of her favorite beauty secrets (“Oil massages and bathing with yogurt once a week!”) are ones she picked up while growing up. She’s also added a few tricks to her repertoire since making it huge in film: “Always use sunblock and shade (with an umbrella!) if you’re going to be in the sun a lot. Also, [I moisturize] at night with a thick moisturizer after I remove my makeup.” But perhaps our favorite beauty secret is featured last in the video below:

Chopra gets to have more fun with beauty and fashion than the rest of us, since she’s always on set, but she tends to leave the wilder looks for work. “I do like experimenting with hair and makeup, but I also know what looks good on me and I like to maintain a certain naturalness,” she says. And as for filming in Bollywood vs. Hollywood? Though the beauty looks may vary, “in Bollywood we do like getting dressed extravagantly!” she says.
