SAG Awards 2015: You’ll Never Guess Who Inspired Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Dress (Plus, More Behind-the-Gown Scoop!)

A lot of prep goes into getting ready for the SAG Awards, from the juice cleanses to the spray tans. But we’re always most interested in finding out how the stars decide on exactly what to wear. And this year, they had some very unique answers for us.

Maggie Gyllenhaal had one big thought when she hit the red carpet: “I hope that my t–ies stay inside my dress.”

She also shared the inspiration behind her long-sleeve white Thakoon dress (with that crazy daring neckline). “I thought it looked like Anjelica Huston in 1979,” she said. “That’s what I was kind of going for.”

Julianne Moore’s decision was easy, since she fell in love with the sketch of her custom Givenchy Haute Couture design when she was picking out gowns for the Golden Globes.

“Riccardo [Tisci] of Givenchy was designing my Golden Globes gown,” she shared. “And he was nice enough to do something custom. And he sent all these beautiful sketches, and we loved them so much. And we saw this green one as well, and we asked if maybe he would make another one for the SAG Awards, and he did. So that’s how that came about. So I’m very, very lucky, to get to of worn two custom Givenchy gowns in a row.”

Orange Is the New Black star (and SAG Award winner!) Uzo Aduba looked to her character when it came to selecting her yellow Angel Sanchez gown.

“I felt like — to borrow from the show — a dandelion,” she said. “The color felt so refreshing and fresh, and it didn’t look like anything else. That just felt right and felt strong and it was a show with so many strong women, I think it was representative of what we do.”

Natalie Dormer’s floral, feminine Naeem Khan was a stark contrast to her 2014 look.

“The SAGS was where I revealed my half-shaved head last year, which was a very hard, striking look, so I was looking for something soft to counter it,” she revealed.

And American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson just wanted to show off her backside in her Armani Privé creation.

“It was the opposite of things I often do, which is sort of more princess-y,” she said. “It felt a little more streamlined, and I have a very badonkadonk of an ass for a white lady, so I don’t often show it off. Since I’m not getting any younger I might as well make the best of what I have while I have it!”
