When Taylor Swift wanted to wear an ethereal dress in the video for Style, her requirements were very specific. It needed to be ornate, yet simple. Flowing, yet sexy. Perhaps something vintage.

She finally found the perfect dress at Dawn, an L.A.-based online boutique which sells vintage-inspired dresses.
The flowing dress, designed by model Christy Dawn Peterson, is made from deadstock silk chiffon and chantilly lace. Petersen tells PEOPLE she was inspired by a similar dress owned by a friend; she reworked the neckline and sleeves to create a new look. The result: “The Fitzgerald,” a dreamy dress just perfect for the video. “I sent [Taylor’s stylist] a box of dresses,” Petersen says, “and they decided that the Fitzgerald was the one.”

Swift made a few alterations of her own. For the video, she reversed the dress, turning the plunging neckline into a plunging back. “It works both ways,” says Petersen.
But don’t expect to see Swift’s dress in every department store; Dawn has only made a handful of them and there are only a few left. “We make our dresses in a limited run,” says Petersen. “That makes them feel like a one-of-a-kind thing.”
That rarity has attracted several celebrity customers to Dawn, including Brooklyn Decker, Leah Jenner and Minka Kelly. “Girls like something things that are different,” says Petersen. “Each dress is unique.”
Petersen says it’s “exciting” to see her creation in a Taylor Swift video. “It really works with her style,” she says. “The dress looks wonderful on her.”
