The Regal Fashion in Downton Abbey Is Reason Enough to Keep the Show Going

As any fan of Downton Abbey knows, each episode presents equal opportunity to marvel over elegant costumes and escape into Crawley family drama. After all, it’s often the fashion choices the characters make that stir the pot, enraging the Dowager Countess of Grantham or delaying dinner for an elaborate change into eveningwear.

But what really sticks out to us about the TV show, which takes place in Yorkshire in the early 1900s, is how each member of the family manages to develop a signature style, especially at a time of progress. Throughout the series, Lady Mary, Lady Edith, and Lady Rose have experimented with shorter hemlines, broken strict fashion rules, and slipped off their white gloves.

And following the announcement that Downton Abbey will end after its sixth season, we can think of nothing better than to immerse ourselves in regal snapshots of the Crawley family. Hopefully, before the show comes to an end, we can expect a few stylish costume updates now that Tom’s hopping over the pond to America. And maybe, just maybe, there’s a gorgeous wedding down in Lady Mary’s future.
