Maybe it’s just us, but every year we plan epic makeup for New Year’s Eve (sparkly shadow! glistening lipstick! jewel-toned everything!) and then the morning after, thanks to dancing the night away and a few too many sips of champagne, we’re a hot mess. But this year, we vow to start 2015 off looking fresh-faced and flawless (even if we’re actually hurting from a night of partying a little too hard). Here’s how:

Distract and brighten with a bold lip like Lily Collins
Never underestimate a swipe of red lipstick! When paired with tinted moisturizer, a touch of brow pencil and mascara, your face looks awake and pulled-together without being too made up. It’s the easiest way to hide a lack of sleep or just to look polished when your short on time.
Rock two liners like Sienna Miller
A crisp black line on your upper lid gives your face a lift. A touch of white pencil along your inner bottom lashes fakes a bright-eyed, wide-awake look. Put them together and you’ve got a quick sleepless night fix. Just keep the rest of your makeup subtle.

Get glowy and try the “ombré eye” a la Kate Hudson
Sweep a shimmer-free bronzer all over (warming your complexion always makes you look healthy and vibrant), then run a pale shadow along the inner “v” of your eyelid, a deep shadow along the outer halves of your eye, and blend them with a medium hue in the middle. The effect is uplifting like a cat eye without requiring the precision of liquid liner. Plus it a more casual, daytime look.
