Saying goodbye is hard to do, especially for the cast of How I Met Your Mother, who have been working together for almost 10 years now. So it’s not terribly surprising that Alyson Hannigan got emotional talking about saying goodbye to Jason Segel who plays her on-screen husband.
The entire cast was on The Talk to talk about the show’s ninth and final season and Sharon Osbourne asked Hannigan what she’ll miss the most about Segel. “He such a wonderful guy,” she answered, as tears came to her eyes. “I’m not going to miss him,” she joked. “I’m not good at answering this question. At all. I’m on a daytime talk show crying, this isn’t how it’s supposed to go.”
In turn, Segel had high praise for Hannigan, who he credits with teaching him about “kind of person that [he] wanted to be.”
“Aly taught me a lot about how to be a man, I’ve got to say,” Segel said. “I was 25 when I took the show and I think we’ve all been through a lot, personally, and Aly and I have a lot of scenes together and spend a lot of time together and she’s always been there to listen to me and to give me advice and saw me through hard times and good times.”
Fortunately, Segel came prepared, with a handkerchief in his back pocket, which he gave to Hannigan. “Let me tell you something, I’ve been carrying around that handkerchief for like 15 years,” he announced, as Hannigan dropped it on the ground.
