He might not be American, but Chris Martin could be enjoying a hot dog this Fourth of July weekend anyway. That’s because the Coldplay frontman has ditched his meat-free status, at least for now.
Martin, 37, who was once named the Sexiest Vegetarian in the world by animal rights group PETA, recently disclosed the news during an interview with BBC Radio 2 host Steve Wright.
For some inexplicable reason, Wright asked Martin if he was still a vegetarian and the “Midnight” singer replied, “Well, not really … I eat meat. I was vegetarian for quite a long time and then for various reasons I changed. My daughter’s vegetarian since she was born, so I keep getting tempted to go back. I don’t eat very much meat.”
The newly single Brit went on to explain, “I felt like you should only eat something that you’d be able to kill. You know, could you kill a fish? I wouldn’t like it, but I probably could, so I’ll eat the fish. But a giraffe…”
So, what’s changed? Perhaps it has something to do with his current marital status (separated).
Martin’s estranged wife Gwyneth Paltrow has been notoriously strict with her diet, which she outlines regularly on her lifestyle blog, goop.com. In fact, the 41-year-old actress’ regimen appears to extend to her children. In the past, the Iron Man star has admitted that she avoids feeding her children Apple, 8, and Moses, 6, pasta, bread or rice, but does bend the rules when the family is on the road.
“My daughter gravitates toward fresh fruit and raw nuts but will inhale a bag of hot Cheetos at the airport. It’s really all about balance,” Gwyneth has explained
Still, some media outlets reported that part of Gwyneth and Chris’ “conscious uncoupling” was due in part to differing views on how to best raise their kids, with Chris favoring a more relaxed approach.
