I may have lied yesterday when I said that we were beyond Miley Cyrus Mania. Oops. Love her or hate her, you sure do love talking about her. This week’s Miley-tastic CommentBuzz starts now.
In case you hadn’t heard, Miley and former role model Sinéad O’Connor are having a bit of a public “back-’n’-forth.” First, Sinead wrote an open letter to Miley. Her message received a lot of support:
“I hope Miley listens, but something tells me she’s going to have to learn the hard way. Too much money, too young, too many people telling her YES and not enough telling her to respect herself and her body. Rely on your talent and not your nakedness.” – angiedd
“Absolutely everything she said is completely spot-on. Sinead may have her issues and maybe only 2 hits to her name, but she’s always going to be a respected artist. Miley needs to look to other great iconic performers who rely more on their talent than skin to express themselves, like Sarah McLachlan. If Miley truly wants to be a conveyor of empowerment, try doing what Sarah does – start a music school, start a female movement, do charity work around the world. Don’t just sit your bare ass on a cold steel wrecking ball and lick a sledgehammer while horny 13-year old boys jerk off under the covers to your video.” – Elizabeth
“One can only hope Miley listens. I watched an old video of hers where she sings “Jolene” and she has an amazing and powerful voice. But who really listens these days? No one. Instead of being attracted to a beautiful young person with a beautiful voice, we’re all distracted by her ugliness. Poor Miley. Someone – other than her misguided parents – needs to step in. I hope she listens to Sinead.” – Donna
Miley responded with a really inappropriate tweet. We were all still #TeamSinéad:
“Nothing about this was “attention seeking” on Sineads part. Miley publicly said she was a fan of Sinead, Sinead publicly responded back. She had something very important to say, and I hope as many young women as possible can read it.” – Kai
“At least when Sinead was having issues with her mental health she didn’t hide it, she asked for help, which is 100% commendable, 5000% Bravery, and to be infinitely respected.” – Isis
“She made it public cos she wanted young girl fans of Mileys to read it in the hope they might learn something you idiot. What other reason would Sinead have for “seeking attention”??? Fuck sake.” – Earl
Sinéad then wrote a second open letter, and by then, our collective patience began to wear thin:
“Not gonna lie, this Sinead woman really shouldn’t have gotten involved. I mean what did she think was going to happen? Its not like Miley was going to break down in tears and thank her for writing that letter. And Miley did write “BEFORE Amanda Bynes” so obviously she wasn’t trying to make it seem recent… So much drama. Why don’t people just stay out of people they don’t know’s business??” – Victoria

Miley, once again, responded with a couple of dismissive tweets. Sinéad then wrote a third letter, and OMG CAN WE PLEASE STOP THE MADNESS???
Oh, except I forgot about the part where Miley posed (basically) nude for Terry Richardson:
