Lady Gaga‘s ARTPOP could mean anything. In this particular instance, it means unsolicited praise from kinda-sorta-not-really-though pop nemesis Katy Perry‘s boyfriend, John Mayer.
Last night, Mayer took to Twitter to tell his followers why he has “huge respect” for Gaga, whose last pop album, ARTPOP, left some critics disappointed.
Here are Mayer’s remarks in their entirety:
I know this is going to sound like I’m trying to stir up media, but I have huge respect for Lady Gaga and I wanna tell you why.
— John Mayer (@JohnMayer) February 20, 2015
She released a record that didn’t get the love she was probably hoping for, which happens to REAL artists. And she’s stood by it.

There is no desperate attempt to be as successful as before by any means necessary, no Artpop 2.0 with cynically produced hits.
— John Mayer (@JohnMayer) February 20, 2015
I respect artists who release music they believe in and with a slow steady pulse while doing it, live or die.

So yah. fin. Carry on Gaga. I can dig it. Everyone else should, too.

After finishing up rehearsal for her mysterious performance at the Oscars this Sunday, Gaga became aware of Mayer’s remarks and kindly responded:
Just got out of a great rehearsal! That was really cool @JohnMayer So thoughtful. The respect is mutual. ⚡️

Perry has yet to weigh in on the exchange, though, considering she’s praised Gaga before and their whole “feud” almost entirely invented by the media, we doubt Mayer’s comments sent her into a rage spiral.
Speaking of Perry, though: Recently, a rumor that the “Dark Horse” singer is two months pregnant with Mayer’s child has been circulating. Our friends at Gossip Cop spoke to a source close to Perry and revealed that there is absolutely no truth to the rumor.
So to recap: Mayer loves Gaga, Gaga loves Mayer, Perry has yet to express an opinion, but we do know that she is not pregnant.
