ELLE’s Women in TV Covers Might Be Controversial

This black and white photo of Mindy Kaling on the February cover of ELLE magazine might not give you pause … until you see the three other covers the magazine put out to highlight their Women In TV issue.

Mindy, who is one of the genius scribes behind as many as 22 episodes of the American version of The Office, and is the creator of her own sitcom, in which she also stars, is shown from the chest up while the other three women chosen (Allison Williams, Amy Poehler, Zooey Deschanel) were given covers that show their torsos. Mindy, a self-proclaimed size-8, might not have been considered worthy of a body shot. Here are all four covers:

It could simply be a coincidence, but Elle also recently came under fire for “hiding“ Melissa McCarthy‘s plus–size figure in an oversized coat.

What do you think? Another example of fashion magazines’ attempt to keep women that aren’t “Hollywood thin” in check, or simply the editor’s favorite photo from Mindy Kaling’s photo shoot?
