Remember when Elton John said Miley Cyrus was a “meltdown waiting to happen?”
Yeah, scratch that.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 66-year-old musician actually defends the tongue-wagging princess.
“She’s a big supporter of the Elton John Aids Foundation… she’s a terrific girl,” Sir Elton tells DeGeneres.
“Her dad’s been in the business for a long time. [The VMAs] was a controversial performance that got everybody talking. And that’s what it’s suppose to do… she’s 18, or 19 or whatever,” he says.
Sir Elton also points out that since the VMAs, no one’s talked about any other artist.
“She has two records in the top 10. She has a number one single,” he says.
As for that interview with The Australian, in which he also called out on Lady Gaga (“I’d like to be able to talk to her right now, but I can’t get through to her”), Sir Elton brushes it off like an old jacket that doesn’t sparkle anymore.
“That was the Australian press. We know what they’re like,” he says.
Riiiiight.
