In the late summer of 2006, Fergie released her erroneously-spelled, debut solo album, The Dutchess. It would spawn more than a few hits, including “London Bridge,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Glamorous,” “Fergalicious” and “Clumsy,” and the album itself would go triple platinum. Fergie was on top of the world; she re-ignited America’s interest in spelling and Milo Ventimiglia shirtless. And then, nothing. In the seven years that have followed, Fergie has released 0 solo albums and only one solo single, “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody,” which I think we can all agree wasn’t exactly, well, fergalicious.
But all that’s in the past and now we have a new Fergie solo record to look forward to. At least, that’s what she claims in a new interview with Ryan Seacrest.
“[Will.i.am] knows that I want to do a solo album next, I think everyone knows that,” Fergie told the DJ. “The Dutchess was comprised of songs that were from a seven year period and a lot of people don’t know that. I’ve been writing down my ideas. I’ve been just in my cave, my little creative cave, and the ideas come when they come and that’s the beauty of it — so not forced. So when I do come out with my album, I’m going to be really proud of it.”
Of course, this is far from an actual announcement. There’s no guarantee Fergie’s The Dutchess follow-up will be out any time soon. But Fergie also wouldn’t say something like this if she hadn’t made some serious progress on the album (we’ll call it The Kween for now). Regardless, this is exciting news indeed!
Fergie says that the album will be released by Will.i.am’s Interscope imprint, which means it will probably be produced by him as well. Let’s just hope it’s more “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and less “Scream and Shout.” Something tells me the faux-British accent wouldn’t be a good look on Fergie.
