Happy New Year, indeed.

2015 has been great so far, thanks to Kanye West and a little song called “Only One.”

On late Wednesday night, the 37-year-old rapper dropped the sweet ballad, featuring Paul McCartney on keys, without any warning or announcement. Basically, Kanye pulled a Beyoncé.

The track, which you can stream on Kanye’s official website and download via iTunes, is written from the perspective of his mother Donda, who passed away in 2007.

“My mom was singing to me, and through me to my daughter,” Kanye says of the song in a statement. [via Rolling Stone]

As you listen to the lyrics, (and if you listen to Kim Kardashian), the sweet track is all about Kanye’s baby girl North.

According to a statement, “Kanye sat there with his family, holding his daughter North on his lap, and listened to his vocals, singing ‘Hello, my only one…’” during the early 2014 recording session.

“And in that moment, not only could he not recall having sung those words, but he realized that perhaps the words had never really come from him.”

As Kanye’s camp points out, “Only One” is the first “publicly available recording from what has become a prolific musical collaboration between these two legendary artists.”
