It’s just a little bit of history repeating itself: Kim Kardashian is yet again under fire for questionable kharity practices.
Radar Online has obtained “tell-tale” tax documents that seem to cast Kim’s ongoing eBay charity donations in an unfavorable light. Does that tree look familiar? Yes, we’re wandering around in circles, and yes, we just went through this eight months ago.
Radar claims that in 2013, Kim made more than $400,000 by auctioning off her clothes on eBay while donating only $44,000 of the proceeds to charity. From a PR perspective, this certainly doesn’t look good for Kim, but it is slightly more complicated than that. Last December, Kim responded to similar criticism by saying:
In regards to these eBay auctions, when the eBay numbers get broken down, the auction management agency that posts for me gets a percentage for all of their hard work, then eBay listing fees, end of auction fees, eBay Store fees, Paypal fees, etc., all add up to about half of the sale. Then I give 10% to a charity.
So essentially: Kim sells her old clothes and things on eBay, donates 10 percent of the proceeds to a different charity each month, and much of the rest of the money goes to pay for overhead. That doesn’t sound that bad. Though, given that she stands to make $200 million from her iPhone game alone, donating 10 percent of other people’s money is still somewhat eyebrow-raising.
Gawker notes that Radar arrived at these numbers by making a few big assumptions, the biggest being that that if Kim donated $44,000 to the Life Change Community Church, founded by Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, she must have pocketed 10 times that amount. But those numbers do not take into account any other charities that Kim may have donated to, and so we’re back at square one. No one really knows anything. Except Kim. And Kris. And perhaps Jesus. There’s that damned tree again.
We patiently await Kim’s icy response to these allegations via, most likely, social media.
