More sad divorce news today: Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams are calling it quits after nearly six years of marriage.
The indie rocker and pop-star turned actress made the mutual decision to divorce citing irreconcilable differences, just 2 months shy of what would be their sixth wedding anniversary. Last night (Jan. 23, 2015), Adams performed an emotional rendition of his Grammy-nominated ballad, “Gimme Something Good” on TV amid the news breaking.
In a statement released to Us Magazine, the couple said, “Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams have mutually decided to end their marriage of almost 6 years. It is a respectful, amicable parting of ways and both Mandy and Ryan are asking for media to respect their privacy at this time.”
Last year, the couple lovingly celebrated their 5 year anniversary.
The couple married in March of 2009 in Savannah Georgia just four months after announcing their engagement in a secret ceremony.

In 2011, the couple released a track together “Empty Rooms”, one of several songs they collaborated on together. Additionally, Moore contributed background vocals to Adams’ 2011 album, Ashes & Fire, as well as his 2014 album Ryan Adams.
Moore, 30, revealed in 2012 that she was working with Adams, 40, on her next studio album (a follow-up from her 2009 album Amanda Leigh). Adams is about to go on a joint tour with Jenny Lewis this spring.
For the most part, the notoriously private couple had kept their relationship out of the headlines. Adams explained to Buzzfeed last September about the time he hung up the phone on a nosy interviewer, saying
“OK, so I just hung up ’cause I was on the radio getting asked about my wife. I was really nice about it the first time, and I’m sorry, but I won’t repeat myself. The deal is this: I’m a private person and I’ll be a gentleman and say I’m not talking about my marriage ever. I’ll never talk about it. Ever.”
