Nicki Minaj looked ***Flawless on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon last night where she spoke about The Pinkprint, her latest amazing album which dropped on December 15th.
Nicki reveals that working at Red Lobster motivated her to become the successful Grammy-nominated artist (and sassy movie star) she is today in this inspirational interview! Also, watch Nicki and Jimmy compare some embarrassing high school photos (well, embarrassing for Jimmy, that is).
Discussing her sassy role in The Other Woman opposite Cameron Diaz, Nicki spoke about her days working as an office manager (“I would call out anytime I wanted”) and waitressing at Red Lobster in New York, saying, “I was really really um, … to the customers” at which point she cocked her head and rolled her eyes.
“I probably waited on people in this audience as a matter of fact! So hi! If you’ve ever eaten at Red Lobster, I probably took your order! Has anyone here?”
“So that’s what made you who you are? That’s what started the Pinkprint.” Jimmy asked.
“That’s what made me wanna hurry up and follow my dream, because I was like, oh my god, this is not for me. I gotta hurry up and get outta here before it’s too late. Seriously!”
She added, “I went to school for acting, so I wanted to be an actress actually first, and then I wanted to sing, but I thought that was a little bit boring. And then I wanted to rap because I thought it was what the dudes were doing, and I felt like you know if I could do what the guys did, I would be like, cooler. So I just started sharpening my skills in rap.”
Nicki talks about her double platinum song “Anaconda”, and wonders why it got so many hits…
“…Why do you think people want to watch that anaconda video…?” Jimmy asks, wide eyed and full of awe.
Then they share throwback high school pics, first Nicki’s (which Beyoncé posted in honor of Onika’s 32nd birthday). Jimmy’s high school pic is rather unfortunate comparatively. Watch both segments in the videos above!
And don’t forget to listen to The Pinkprint, Nicki’s latest album.
