As a darling new photo from Prince George christening surfaced on the internet, proud father Prince William attended the Football Association’s 150th Anniversary dinner at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London, England.
According to the Mirror, this is the site of where the founders of English football met in 1863.
The Duke of Cambridge has been FA president since May 2006, and invited two amateur football leagues to compete against each other on the grounds of Buckingham Palace on October 7th.
“It’s always meant a great deal to me, being president of the FA,” William said, according to the BBC. ”There’s a lot of good that football can do around the world, and in this country.”
Tonight, William gave a speech to attendees, congratulating the national team on making it to next year’s World Cup finals in Brazil. He chided them for scoring only one World Cup victory during Queen Elizabeth‘s reign, but assured them that he has confidence they can bring home another.
“Our national players are role models for millions of young people and I think we need to give those highly pressured and driven players the support and training they need to live up to their rightly exalted status,” the Duke said.
“We were as a nation so proud of our Team GB athletes at the Olympics and Paralympics, for their success on the field but also for the way they conducted themselves in interviews and with their competitors.
“It is perfectly possible to say the same about our national teams – they are good people, ambitious for success and to a man and woman aware of their status as role models.”
