When Kim Kardashian released “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” it became a bonafide cultural phenomenon. Experts predicted the game would make as much as $200 million by the end of the year. It turns out, however, that the game was less a lasting cultural force and more a flash in the pan.
Yahoo! Finance reports that “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” fell quite short of its projected revenue goal and is now in a “free fall” down the app charts.
The game made $43 million in the third quarter, and though the publisher, Glu Mobile, hasn’t released its fourth quarter report, experts say the game won’t come close to earning the $200 million they originally projected. Stock for Glu Mobile has also plummeted from a peak of $7.60 in July, when the initial projections were announced, to half that.
Still, Kim reportedly takes home 45 percent of the revenues, which means she’s already pocketed more than $19 million from the game. So while she failed to meet expectations, one is hardly inclined to shed a tear for her. Instead, save your tears for Lindsay Lohan‘s “The Price of Fame,” which did not even crack the 350 top-grossing apps on iTunes.
