So, Justin Bieber Doesn’t Really Know Who the Mexican President Is

Here’s a lesson in name-dropping, kids: Know the person you’re actually name-dropping about.

Justin Bieber learned this the hard way when the Mexican president called him out on Twitter after the pop sensation boasted he had met the head of state prior to taking the stage in Mexico.

After tweeting — in a message that has since been deleted — that he had “just met some amazing mexican beliebers and the presidente of mexico and his familia,” President Enrique Pena Nieto‘s office immediately responded with a message denying the allegations.

“@Presidenciamx denies meeting between President @EPN with the singer @justinbieber,” the reply read in a tweet that has since been taken down.

After realizing his mistake, Biebs quickly clarified that he ”met the presidente’s family and all their friends in the private meet and greet with security.”

They were very nice,” he added.

Though the damage was done and the snafu was broadcasted worldwide, you really have to give Bieber a break. Come on, this comes from the kid who wore denim overalls to meet the prime minister of his homeland. Clearly, meeting world leaders isn’t his top priority in life.
