‘The Comeback’ Is Officially Coming Back

HBO has made it official: cult classic The Comeback is returning to television after ten years. In a statement, HBO confirmed that Lisa Kudrow will reprise her role as Valerie Cherish for a “six-episode limited series” this fall.

The Comeback originally aired on HBO in 2005 and was not picked up for a second season, despite being (not even editorializing here) a freaking revelation. The show is presented as the raw footage of a reality show chronicling fading TV star Valerie Cherish’s return to the spotlight. In the statement, HBO confirms that the show will begin production this month, with original stars Kudrow, Lance Barber, Dan Bucatinsky, Robert Michael Morris, Laura Silverman and Damian Young all returning. Though the statement makes no mention of it, it has been reported that Malin Akerman and Kellan Lutz, who both starred in the series’ first season, are in talks to return as well.

“It was almost too fun play Valerie Cherish the first time around,” Kudrow says in the statement. “I look forward to revisiting this resilient and ironically self-unaware character.”

We definitely want to see that.
