After giving us a teaser in February, New Line Cinema has given us the first full trailer for Tammy, written by Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone, who directed the movie. While the teaser gave us a look at McCarthy’s Tammy, seemingly in the throes of mania, robbing a fast food joint called TopperJack’s, the full trailer gives us a better feel for the movie as a whole.
McCarthy plays the titular Tammy, who, after the robbery, runs off with her alcoholic grandmother, played by Susan Sarandon. A road trip movie starring Susan Sarandon… sound familiar? Anyway, the two set their sights for Niagara Falls and along the way encounter plenty of the gonzo physical comedy for which we’ve come to know and love McCarthy.
Tammy comes out July Fourth weekend, because what did the Founding Fathers fight for, if not our right to watch Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon in a buddy comedy.
