Fans of How I Met Your Mother are not exactly thrilled with the way the CBS chose to end the show’s nine-season run last night. You know what that means: Twitter blew up with the tweets of the enraged devotees.
In the twist that many people saw coming, Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) finally reveals to his two teenage children how their mother Tracy (Cristina Milioti) met an untimely death six years earlier.
It turns out, the whole story of HIMYM is told to Ted’s children so that he can get their approval to ask out Aunt Robin (Cobie Smulders). Ted’s daughter (Lyndsy Fonseca) responds, “Is that it? I don’t buy it. You made us sit down and listen to the story about how you met mom? But mom is hardly in the story. No, this is a story about how you’re totally in love with Aunt Robin, and you’re thinking about asking her out and you want to know if we’re OK with it.”
Here are a few fan reactions to the big reveal:

THE SHOW IS CALLED “HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER” NOT “HOW I MET MY SOULMATE, SHE DIED, AND I MARRIED YOUR USELESS AUNT” OMFG #HimymFinale

My life goal is to become rich enough to hire all the actors again and re-create the finale the correct way. #HIMYMFinale

To the writers of #HIMYM HOW DARE YOU? Worst ending ever for one of the best shows. This is me right now –> pic.twitter.com/x31nzuS4Vl

Not everyone hated it of course, but people feel strongly about TV shows after they invest many years watching it. Just ask Seinfeld creators Larry David and Jerry Seineld. HIMYM’s most beloved/reviled character Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris, ended up getting divorced from Robin twenty minutes into the show, which was another sore subject for fans.
Watching the HIMYM finale, 15 minutes in and WHAT. WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO BARNEY AND ROBIN? WHY? #HIMYMFinale — Steph (@itsstephh__) April 1, 2014
I swear, the only people who still ship Ted and Robin are the freaking WRITERS. We wanted Barney and Robin! #HIMYMFinale — gabby. (@SwiftlyTatum) April 1, 2014

What do you guys think? Did the writers deliver the goods or major disappointment?
