Watch: James Franco Goes Gay, Hates on ‘Frozen’ and Addresses Sony Hacking Scandal on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Sometimes our expectations far exceed reality and not even a surprise appearance from Seth Rogen could help save last nights sad showing of Saturday Night Live.

Thankfully, they had Nicki Minaj save the day with an impression of Kim Kardashian you can not miss.

James Franco did his best to keep things rolling, even diving into his best Christopher Walken as a drag queen impression, but Saturday nights skits fell flat more often than not. That being said, there was at least a few water cooler moments that you’ll want to see before heading into the office on Monday.

Here’s a roundup of what the crew from studio 8h had to offer:

COLD OPEN:

Shockingly, one of the best moments of the night came right at the top of the show. Cold opens usually get lost in their own politico, but Kenan Thompson proved he’s capable of turning tragedy into comedy.

MONOLOGUE:

Franco seems to think there are still people in the world who haven’t seen him naked and he used the first moments of his hosting honors to flash even more skin. It’s just too bad this is what people will remember as the face of Sony Pictures in the wake of the hacking and security breach of its entire computer network.

BEST SKETCHES OF THE NIGHT:

Technically not a sketch, but “Kim Kardashian” stopped by Weekend Update to clear up those taken out of context Paper Magazine nude photos.

WEEKEND UPDATE:

Things got deep at the newsdesk this weekend and, not going to lie, it killed whatever momentum Franco had built up. Where the cold open succeeded in giving people a laugh about current events, Update might as well have been helmed by Diane Swayer for the night.

The thing is though…thank god for Leslie Jones.

GAYEST SKETCH OF THE NIGHT:

It’s finally happened. James Franco played a very intense game of tonsil hockey that will undoubtedly be turned into a gif before this post is published.
