Watch: One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Bono and More Cover ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ to Fight Ebola

In an effort to raise funds to fight the Ebola crisis in West Africa, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure recently recruited their fellow singer friends to redo “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” some 30 years after the original recording.

Among the famous faces in the new cover: Chris Martin, Bono, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Sinead O’Connor, Bastille, Sam SmithRita Ora and the boys from One Direction

“From what we’ve seen from iTunes it’s gone bonkers,” Geldof told Radio 4 on Monday, after premiering the music video on The X Factor the day before. “Within four or five minutes we had a million quid.” (That’s about $1.56 million USD).

All profits from the song’s sales will support the Band Aid charity’s fight against the deadly disease, which has already killed more than 5,000 people.
