Almost a decade after moviegoers first met Mean Girls, the gang is still making headlines. So, you ask, what are Regina George, Gretchen Weiners, Karen Smith and Cady Heron up to these days? Well, we’ll tell you.
Amanda Seyfried: Gone are her days as weather girl-in-the-making Karen Smith, saying things like, “My breasts can always tell when it’s going to rain.” Now she’s put her bosom to better use starring as legendary porn actress Linda Lovelace in the upcoming biopic, Lovelace, in theaters Friday. As Regina would say: “Boo, you whore!” Still, Amanda cherishes her career-starting role in Mean Girls as her “best work.”
Lindsay Lohan: She who played Cady — “It’s pronounced like Katie” — is hoping for a fresh-out-of-rehab comeback with The Canyons (in limited theaters now), the Paul Schrader-directed indie drama that stars her opposite adult film actor James Deen. Alas, critics did not rave about it, but many did about her bubbly guest-hosting gig on E!’s Chelsea Lately. Now let’s see if she can keep shining under Oprah‘s spotlight.
Rachel McAdams: The Queen Bee, a.k.a Regina, has been lying low this year, but is finally due back on the big screen in romcom About Time, out Nov. 8. She stars as Mary, the girlfriend of Tim (Domhnall Gleeson), who time travels to relive moments of their romance. (Why is poor Rachel always stuck in the present? First in The Time Traveller’s Wife, then, two years later, in Midnight in Paris, now this.) Next, she’ll take a turn into the serious with upcoming thriller A Most Wanted Man, in which she plays an activist lawyer bent on protecting a Chechen Muslim illegal immigrant in Germany. Tough case.
Lacey Chabert: “And none for Gretchen Wieners, bye.” Actually, not quite. Lacey has landed plenty of work since Mean Girls. Most has been bit roles in TV series or made-for-TV movies, but there’s one that stands out: She voiced Meg Griffin on Family Guy for over a decade, up until last year.
