BERLIN — Justin Bieber missed his appearance on a popular German television program after a daredevil was severely injured during the show's live broadcast Saturday night.
Samuel Koch, 23, was attempting to jump over a moving car in special shoes when he crashed and laid motionless, shocking millions of Wetten Dass viewers at home. The accident led to the rest of the game show being canceled.
On Sunday, Koch reportedly underwent surgery after suffering multiple back injuries and fractures. His condition was initially considering life threatening.
"He is in an extremely critical stage," Dr. Wolfgang Raab told the German news agency DPAD.
Bieber took to Twitter after the accident to pass along his prayers.
"Just want to let my people in Germany know I won't be on Wetten Dass tonight as an accident has taken place and we all don't think it is right to continue," the Canadian teen idol said. "Please pray for Samuel Koch & his family as we wait and hope for his health and safety. I'm sorry we couldn't perform tonight but some things are more important than putting on a show."
Cameron Diaz, Take That and Cher were also scheduled to appear on the hit show.
