Olivia Munn has been open about the fact that her acting career has a surprise side effect: The actress admitted that she unintentionally lost 12 pounds when she trained to play Psylocke in X:Men Apocalypse (out May 27). “If I wanted the fans to see Psylocke and get a good fight scene for her and for the fans, I knew I had to go do it myself,” she has said. “So I started training every day with Taekwondo and sword and the stunt and wire work and I just ended up losing 12 pounds just from working out every day.”
There was also one more consequence she wasn’t expecting: A total change in her face!

“As I’ve tried to get healthier in my life, I’ve realized there are adverse effects to losing weight,” she tells PeopleStyle in an interview featured in our new issue, on newsstands today. “I’m not very tall, so any weight that I had lost changed areas of my skin, like my neck. I could see different parts of my skin didn’t feel as, like, tight anymore and I think it’s just because it was excess [skin] because of the lost of weight.”

Now, she’s researching how to tighten that area in a natural way. “I’m aware of it and, because I’m aware of it, I love to talk to other women and figure out what other people are doing,” says Munn, 35. “If you just ask your girlfriends or different people you work with, you end up finding a lot of really great ideas.”

Of course, there’s always the Botox and filler route — though she says she’s not quit ready to go down that path. “I want to try to avoid anything like that,” she says. “Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but I believe that we, as women, should embrace our age and have no problem saying it. Sure, parts of my skin don’t feel as tight anymore. But we can’t control the day we were born.”

For now, she’s taking just taking extra care of her skin. “Makeup can really transform your look, but nothing replaces having great skin,” she says. “It’s always been important to me to invest in it. I’ve regretted buying shoes or purses, but I’ve never regretted what I’ve spent on my skin. I had adult acne not that long ago. It was worse than when I was 18! I started using Proactiv, and I haven’t dealt with it since.”
