The New York City native, who was accompanied by her producer beau Swizz Beatz, recently opened up to Gotham about her new album, The Element of Freedom.

"I love the many styles this album has, from strong, heavy beats to delicate vocals, [from] soaring arrangements to simple and sparse pianos," explained Keys in the magazine's March issue. "That is the diversity that I've witnessed, especially in a place like New York, and I believe that's followed me to my music."
